PhD hab Barbara Dutkiewicz, Associate Professor 

 

She graduated from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Eurhythmics Specialty under the supervision of Ewa Nowak (Master of Art in Eurhythmics – distinguished diploma 1995). In addition, she attended the Pantomime Studio run by 'Mime Theater of Sound and Movement IOTA' (1991-1994), and The School for New Dance Development at Theater School in Amsterdam (1996-1998), as well as classes of court dance leaded by Dorothée Wortelbour in Utrecht (1996-1999) and Lieven Baert (in Ghent). In 2005 Barbara Dutkiewicz broadened her education by writing PhD thesis: 'Improvisation as a creative method at theater of second half of 20th century'. In 2012 she published a book entitled: 'Polystylistics or Discourse with the Past - Choreography of Music in the Light of Postmodernism on the Basis of Chosen Musical Works’. In 2014, she completed her post-doctoral studies, defended the results of her research (at the FCUM in Warsaw) and obtained a postdoctoral degree in the artistic discipline of eurhythmics and dance.

 

 

Currently, she works as an Associate Professor (since 2017) at the Academy of Music in Katowice where she conducts artistic, scientific and didactic activities, working with students of the specialty of eurhythmics, music education, music therapy, as well as singers and instrumentalists. She teaches eurhythmics, music choreography (plastique animee), movement techniques and methodology of eurhythmics teaching. Moreover she teaches stage movement and court dances, as well as piano improvisation and methodology of teaching improvisation. Provides artistic and scientific supervision over student diploma theses. Her interests also include new dance and various techniques of working with the body as well as improvisation used both as an element of workshop work enabling the development of the artist's creative workshop as well as a means of stage expression and a structural element of composition in music, theater, dance, and para-theatrical performances.

 

 

Included among her many lectures, workshops and master classes (also as part of conferences, symposia, festivals) given in Poland and abroad are: Austria (University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna), Belgium (Universiteit Ghent; and Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp), Canada (Université Laval in Quebec), Cyprus (European University Cyprus, Nicosia), Germany (Institute of Eurhythmics in Hellerau; and Musikhochschule in Trossingen, as well as Die Akademie Remscheid), Hong Kong (The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts), Italy (on-line for Italian Jaques-Dalcroze Association), Sweden (Royal College of Music in Stockholm), United Kingdom (Coventry University), USA (Princeton NJ, Westminster Choir College; and in California State University Dominguez Hills CA, Los Angeles; and also in Miami at Florida International University, FL for the Dalcroze Society of America). Her teaching activity also includes many years of experience in teaching eurhythmics to preschool and early school age children and conducting eurhythmics classes for seniors. He also works at the Karol Szymanowski State Secondary Music School in Katowice, where he teaches piano improvisation. He is a consultant of the CEA (Center for Artistic Education - ministerial institution, which conducts pedagogical supervision at art schools and institutions in Poland). In addition, she implements many educational projects, from children's projects, through student and off-site projects, to projects carried out by professional artists.

 

 

Barbara Dutkiewicz also runs her independent artistic activity including the Barbara Dutkiewicz Performative Arts Studio. She has performed and presented her artistic works in Poland (including the Korez Theater in Katowice, the Ślaski Theater in Katowice, the Games and People Theater in Katowice, the Nowy Theater in Zabrze, the Rozrywki Theater in Chorzów, the Krzysztof Penderecki European Music Center in Lusławice, at the concert hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, at the Świętokrzyska Philharmonic, at the Academies of Music in: Katowice, Łódź, Poznań, Gdańsk) and abroad in the Netherlands, France, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and the USA. She had the pleasure to work with outstanding Polish music groups, incl. Concerto Polacco, Lasoń Ensemble, Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej, Kopiński Duo and foreign artists: Lieven Baert, Dorothée Wortelboer, Naoya Otsuka, Johanna Seitz, Elisabeth Seitz, Luc Nijs.

 

She is the author of over 70 music choreographies (plastique animee), several dozen dance choreographies, stage movement arrangements in theater performances, as well as several monographic chamber concerts with important participation of plastique animee, a musical performance for children and several full-length author projects and performances, as well as video projects. Additionally, a much smaller part of her work are musical compositions - mainly songs and music for performances.
